Luffa Photos and Video

Welcome to the Luffa.info photo page. Here are photos and video of luffa sponge gourds, also known as loofahs, loofah sponge, loofa, loofah, loufa, sponge gourd, or whatever else someone wants to call them. The scientific name for this plant is Luffa aegyptiaca. These luffa vines were grown on a home garden trellis, on chain link fence, and on a wooden deck with lattice. Here in Tennessee we start our luffa seeds about a month before the last frost date in pots. They are kept warm and get as much sun as possible. The plants are transplanted outside to sunny locations after danger of frost. The loofah sponges are picked and peeled in the fall. Don't miss seeing the close up bee and flower photos on the flowers page.
